Anzac Day Message from Simon

This Wednesday marks Anzac Day, our national day of remembrance for the Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.  It is an opportunity to reflect on and honour the contribution of all those who have served.

There are few better ways to connect with our local communities than to stand shoulder to shoulder with your neighbours to honour those that have risked their lives to defend yours. Don’t miss the opportunity to attend a Dawn Service of Remembrance or an Anzac Day Commemoration Service and March in your area. Check out your state or territory's RSL page to find one near you.

Many people also choose to celebrate the day with a game or two of the soldiers’ favourite pastime, two-up.  Have a look at our events page to see if there are any games happening in your area.

Why is Anzac Day important?

Anzac Day is revered in Australia for two reasons. Firstly, it acknowledges the sacrifices made by Australian and New Zealander members of armed forces who served (and serve) in foreign combats. Secondly, Anzac Day celebrates their spirit - the embodiment of larrikinism, mateship, endurance and courage in the face of extreme adversity.

The spirit of the Anzac continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity.  No matter how you choose to spend April 25th, the team here at Nabo wish you and your loved ones a worthwhile and safe day.

The Northern Territory RSL website was broken when this blog post was created. If you live in the Northern Territory, please check the events page for Anzac events in your area.
