In today’s modern world, it’s so easy to get caught up in the rat race of life that you simply forget to connect with the people around you. Giving back to your community is a great way to share the love around your neighbourhood, and to even get to know your neighbours a little better. You’ll feel great knowing that you’ve touched someone's heart with your kindness.
VOLUNTEER AT A SHELTER
With the holidays coming up, now is the perfect time to help out at a homeless shelter. Swing past your local shelter for a chance to help out those who aren’t as fortunate as you. For those who have nothing but the clothes on their back, having someone serving a warm bowl of soup with a big smile can make a massive impact on their lives and brighten up their day.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL OP SHOP
Is your home cluttered with old clothes and items you no longer have a use for? Donate them to your nearest Vinnies or Salvos, because let’s not forget, one man’s trash is another’s treasure! All donations are appreciated and if you've got some spare time, places like these are always on the lookout for people to help run the shop. Don’t forget to have a look around while you’re there; you never know what type of vintage treat you may find!
Nabo works better with more people. Build a stronger community.
One in three people will need a blood transfusion at some stage in their life. However, only one in thirty men and women currently donate blood. With today’s technological advancements, one donation of your blood can go on to help at least three people. Such a simple act of generosity could do a world of change for someone and their loved ones. Plus, you get free nibbles when you’re done. Who doesn’t love free food?

SPEND TIME AT A LOCAL SENIOR CENTRE
It's always important to remember that not everyone in the community is fortunate enough to have their significant others around. Places like your local retirement home are constantly looking for volunteers to help out and any help is greatly appreciated. Simply sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them is a great way to show them you care. You can play board games, read stories or just sit back and chat to a resident.

ORGANISE A STALL AT YOUR NEXT LOCAL FETE
Next time your local school or Lion’s Club holds a fete or community festival, lend a helping hand and run your very own stall. Use this as a chance to showcase your passions and skills, through running a bake stall, jewellery table or selling some old goods for a local charity. Many of these events have white elephant stalls, plus plenty of fun games and activities, so there are many opportunities to help out and have some fun with your community.
Chat with your neighbours about everything from local issues to bin collection.
START A LOCAL BOOKCLUB
If reading and discussing literature is more up your alley, why not join or start up your very own local book club? Your local library will help host the meet up and it's a great way to connect with your neighbours and share some common interests. Dissect the romantic works of Jane Austen or explore the world of science-fiction through a Philip K. Dick novel. There’s no better time than now to start up a book club and lose yourself in a novel.
